What is Qigong?
why monday?
Monday sets the tone for everything that follows.
It's easy to begin the week already thinking about what needs doing next. This class offers something different: an hour to pause before the week gathers pace, to notice your breathing, soften into movement and return your attention to yourself.
You don't have to achieve anything or get anything right. Simply turning up is enough.
By the time you leave, you may find the week ahead feels a little more spacious.
what happens in class?
Each class weaves together flowing Qigong movements, breathing practices, quiet moments of stillness and seasonal themes from traditional Chinese wisdom.
Rather than striving for perfect movements, we'll explore how it feels to move with ease, attention and curiosity. Sometimes we'll linger with a single movement. Sometimes we'll flow through a sequence. As the seasons change, so too do the qualities we explore, inviting us to notice the rhythms of the natural world and our place within them.
Classes are gently guided, unhurried and suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous experience.
who comes?
Everyone is welcome.
Some people come because life feels busy and they long for an hour that's simply theirs. Others are curious about Qigong, are looking for a gentler alternative to the gym or want a practice that complements yoga, walking or time in nature.
Some have years of experience with movement practices. Others have never tried anything like this before.
What they share is a curiosity about slowing down, moving with greater awareness and finding a little more space in their week. If that resonates with you, I think you'll feel at home here.
autumn term: yi jin jing
This autumn we'll explore Yi Jin Jing (Muscle and Tendon Changing Classic), one of the best-known traditional Qigong forms.
Practised slowly over several weeks, this classical sequence develops strength, suppleness and resilience while inviting a quieter kind of attention. As familiarity grows, the movements become less about remembering the sequence and more about noticing what unfolds within it.
what people notice
Everyone's experience is different, and Qigong often works quietly.
People tell me they sleep more easily. Their shoulders soften. Their breathing feels deeper. They notice moments of calm appearing in unexpected places. Some rediscover the pleasure of moving without rushing. Others simply enjoy having one hour each week where they don't have to be anywhere else.
The changes are often subtle, unfolding over time, like the seasons themselves.
